The 54th Grammy Awards Recap

It wasn’t long after the start of the event when Hip Hop veteran and the show’s host, LL Cool J told the audience watching,

“There is no way around this. We’ve had a death in our family.”

LL went on to read a prayer for the late great Whitney Houston who tragically lost her life just one night before the Grammys at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, saying,

“Heavenly father, we thank you for sharing our sister Whitney with us. Though she is gone too soon, we remain truly blessed to have been touched by her beautiful spirit.”

After making a full recovery from her vocal chord surgory, the British Songstress, Adele, stole the show by walking away with six GRAMMYs which ties her with Beyonce who also walked away with six awards in 2009.

Adele managed to walk away with the awards for

• Album of the Year for ‘21’
• Best Pop Vocal Album for ‘21’
• Record of the Year
• Song of the Year
• Best Short Form Music Video for ‘Rolling In The Deep’
•  Best Pop Solo Performance for ‘Someone Like You’

Other winners on the night were  Foo Fighters, who won five out of the seven awards they were nominated for including:

• Best Rock Album for ‘Wasting Light’
• Best Rock Performance for ‘Walk’

Kanye West was awarded four awards, although not making an appearance to the show, two of the awards being:

• Best Rap Album for ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’
• Best Rap Performance with Jay-Z for ‘Otis’.
