Vera Wiedermann “Dreamtime” Alarm Clock

You would probably take a look at the image above and think to yourself, “what the hell is this?” Believe it or not, this is an alarm clock. As artists and designers are finding new creative and innovative ways to do certain things, it seems like this product here is certainly something unique to add in the box of innovative ideas.

This mechanical piece here as an alarm clock called ‘Dreamtime’, designed by Vera Wiedermann, which effortlessly functions without the use of batteries at all. All it uses is glass bowls which are filled with water to operate (time set depends on amount of water filled in the glass bowls) and the clock is silently at work. According to Design Boom,

‘The design is based on the simplest of scientific thought models, and despite its mechanical details which form the heart, soul, and sound of the timer, the product retains a certain playfulness. Time is something hard to grasp, but sleep is an experience.’
